SIS Registration Blocking Registration Blocking is used by colleges, the Registrar, and the Loans & Receivables Office to apply and release academic, administrative, and financial registration blocks.  Blocks have the effect of blocking a student from registering for an upcoming term and preventing them from obtaining official transcripts.  The system produces blocking reports and interfaces with CARS.  There are 5 online IDMS/ADSO programs and 10 batch COBOL and EASYTRIEVE programs. SIS AFB Registration Fees (AFB) assesses registration and other fees and generates waivers.  The system interfaces with the Campus Accounts Receivable System (CARS), sending fee assessments for individual students.  There are 10 online IDMS/ADSO programs and 20 batch COBOL, PL/1, and EASYTRIEVE programs. SIS Profile & SRS Registration Systems (Profile and SRS) serve the Office of the Registrar and other campus units by maintaining student registration data.  The systems process and maintain student personal and identification data, degrees, college/major changes, student registration history; produce census reports; and interface with the Campus Accounts Receivable System (CARS), Payroll, and Office of the President.  Profile has about 100 online IDMS/ADSO programs, and SRS includes 20 batch COBOL and EASYTRIEVE programs. SIS ROOM Room Reservation System (ROOM) keeps track of room usage of general assignment classrooms that are under the jurisdiction of the Office of the Registrar. Using this system, the Scheduling Section of the Office of the Registrar can schedule special events in these rooms during times such as evenings and weekends when classes are not scheduled. ROOM is integrated with other database systems such as the CLASS system. SIS SAMS Student Aid Management System (SAMS) is an online system that supports financial aid office processing.  SAMS was purchased from Sigma Corporation and adapted for the Berkeley campus. Although SIS is responsible for system maintenance and installation of system upgrades, Sigma continues to provide some maintenance support, primarily by supplying annual system changes that reflect new federal or state financial aid requirements. SAMS processes requests for financial aid, packages aid, transfers funds to/from CARS, and produces a variety of reports. Some selectively extracted data from SAMS is also made available to students through Tele-BEARS/Info-BEARS and Bear Facts. SAMS has 50 online COBOL/CICS programs and about 100 batch COBOL and FOCUS programs.  SAMS is a stand-alone system that uses its own VSAM files rather than the IDMS Student Database. SIS URIS  University Registrar’s Information System (URIS) and Final Grade processing are the campus' student record systems that maintain the campus' official record of students' academic and profile data.  Records are usually established in URIS from data supplied by the undergraduate and graduate admission systems.  Personal and demographic data, as well as previous academic history, are the main components of a student's initial URIS record.  URIS processes and prints grade reports, final and midterm grades, degrees, and the confirmed class schedule.  Course reports are produced for instructors to use to enter grades.  The system posts grades, updates transcripts, produces grade mailers, and handles course duplication.  The Office of the Registrar is the primary user of URIS, but other offices and departments obtain services from the system.  Many URIS reports are distributed to departmental users.   There are approximately 300 batch PL/1 and COBOL programs and 7 online IDMS/ADSO programs in this system. SIS SSAR Summer Session Admission and Registration System (SSAR) supports the admission, fee assessment, registration, and enrollment functions performed by the Summer Session Office. SIS STS Student Transcript System (STS) is used to maintain student academic records and to produce transcripts. The Records Unit in the Registrar's Office is the primary user of the system; but many schools, colleges, and departments are using STS to display individual student transcripts online and to print unofficial transcripts in their offices. The Records Unit uses STS to update student transcripts online, entering grade and other changes directly into individual student academic records. STS also allows the Records Unit to print official transcripts immediately (when students come to its window to request copies of their transcript) or within 10 days (when students request copies of transcripts via letter, email, or phone). SIS SID Student ID Assignment System (SID) assigns student identifier numbers to new students.  The system checks the IDMS Student database to determine if an applicant for admission has attended previously and already has a SID number assigned.  If a student is re-admitted, SID reactivates the SID number originally assigned to the student. The Summer Session system, the Undergraduate and Graduate Admission systems, and the registration system use this application system.  SID includes 3 online IDMS-ADSO programs and 3 batch COBOL programs.    Campus JR Schulden 642.1618 schulden@socrates.berkeley.edu    
SIS Onlince Schedule of Classes Online Schedule of Classes is a new Web-based system that accesses data in both the IDMS and Oracle Student Databases.  In order to provide up-to-date enrollment information, the IDMS database used by Tele-BEARS is accessed.  Consequently, a student can access the online schedule of classes and determine if space is available in a particular class.  The system provides various ways to search for classes.  For example, it is possible to search for a course based on instructor name, course name, department name, or course control number.  The system has 4 IDMS programs and 27 Oracle programs. SIS Law School Registration Law School Registration and Records is used by Boalt Law School to maintain academic and other records for law students.  Boalt converted to this system in 1998 after using a vendor supplied PC-based system.  There are 12 online IDMS/ADSO programs and 5 batch programs in the system. SIS CATALOG General Catalog (CATALOG) produces the text for course listings to be printed in the campus general catalog using data from COURSE.  The course descriptions and other course information from COURSE are supplemented with departmental, school, college, and campus information to produce the catalog.  The system includes two batch PL/1 programs and a set of REXX programs. SIS Enrollment Systems  Enrollment Systems (ACE, ENR, OLADS, Tele-BEARS, Info-BEARS) enroll students into classes; create and process waitlists; produce class lists, student study lists, and class demand analysis reports; schedule student calling times; and perform many related tasks. SIS DARS Degree Audit Reporting System (DARS) is an automated transfer credit and degree audit evaluation system.  The major product of the system is a report for an individual student, summarizing the student's progress toward graduation, and indicating both graduation requirements that have been completed and those that remain to be satisfied.  The report is available either as a paper report or as an online screen.  One of the functions performed by DARS is to articulate transfer courses to UCB equivalent courses and include these courses in the assessment of the student's progress toward a degree.  DARS consists of 108 COBOL batch programs and 42 CICS online programs. SIS COURSE Web Site Course Web Site System provides skeleton web pages for every course scheduled.  The course web pages are accessed from the Online Schedule of Classes or from Bear Link, the student systems home page.  A course web page includes: date, time, and location of class; number of units; up-to-date enrollment information; course control number; and links to the college or school web page, departments, course description in the Course Approval System, and the instructor’s web page. SIS COURSE Course Approval System (COURSE) keeps track of previous and current versions of courses offered at Berkeley. COURSE includes units, credit hours, course descriptions, course format, equivalency courses, and effective semesters. Users of COURSE are the Academic Senate, the Office of the Registrar, and the Publications Office. The course data is used to produce the General Catalog. SIS CLASS Class Scheduling System (CLASS) uses the Course Approval System, previous year's classes, and online user input to set up course offerings for a term. The system assigns rooms to classes using a multi-pass sorting algorithm; keeps track of time, room, instructor, units, credit code, etc.; produces the Schedule of Classes; schedules final exams; produces the Schedule of Final Exams; and maintains room information including such details as lab, computer, video and TV facilities. CLASS is integrated with other database systems, such as the Course Approval, Room Reservation, Tele-BEARS, and OLADS. All departments use this system with the Scheduling Section of the Office of the Registrar as the main user.
